How to create a time capsule: A step by step guide

This is the first of its kind post on Pigeonheadophobia. It's my first How To and it's my first post on Time capsules.

Creating time capsules is one of the many projects I will take up this year.

So what exactly is a time capsule?

time capsule is a historic cache of goods or information, usually intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists Time capsules are placed with the intention that they will be anthropologists or historians. Time capsules are sometimes created and buried during celebrations such as a World's Fair, a cornerstone laying for a building or at other events. Time capsules are placed with the intention that they will be opened or accessed at a future date. Source : Wikipedia

A time capsule can be created b anyone. I love the idea of a time capsule because I feel it's necessary for the future to know what the past was.

How to create your own time capsule:
A step by step guide

Memorabilia

1. Collect items you wear, photograph it.

2. Collect pieces of cloth that were used to tailor something you wear. Collect buttons, buckles, threads. hair accessories Put all this in a ziplock bag.

3. Collect everyday items like batteries, pens, clothes pegs. Put them in a ziplock bag. Add anything else you can think of later.

Social media, emails, tech, gadgets, phones,

1. Save screenshots of your chats with your favourite people. Save this as Timecapsule screenshot.chats.  Email these to yourself. Make the subject Time capsule.screenshots.

2. Save screenshots of what your desktop looks like.

3. Type an email to yourself. Write down your current location, occupation, interests, links to your social media pages, blogs, websites.

4. Take screenshots of your facebook, instagram, twitter,

5. Make a note of the current apps you're using on your smartphone.

6. Make a note of your browser.

Letters, notes and lists

1. Write a letter to your future self and seal it.  Write about your present self, your hope  and dreams for the future. You could check out my post on writing letters to yourself for more tips.

2. Write a letter to the future generation.

3. Write letters to you loved ones.

Seal all your letters and keep them somewhere that won't be accessible to anyone.

4. Write down your dreams, goals and bucket lists ( or type and print) and roll it up like a scroll and tie it with a ribbon.

5. Write a note in your handwriting. It can be a thought, a quote, a verse, your favourite lyrics or even a joke

Newspaper cuttings and photographs

1. Get newspaper clipping of important events that happened last year  in your country and globally.

2. Click photographs with all your favourite people. Get them printed.  Write a note behind them. Put them in an envelope and seal it.

Videos

1. Take videos of yourself doing everyday mundane things, spending time with your family and friends, travelling and working. Edit and make a movie out of it or get a professional to do it.

External hard disk, pendrive

1. Get an inexpensive hard disk or a pendrive you no longer use.

2. Add your favourite pictures to that pendrive

3. Add your favourite movie and your favourite playlists.

4. If you're a performing artist add a video of one of your performances. Just one.

Now collect all the notes, clippings, photographs,  and envelopes, ziplock bags and place them in a wooden box. Seal the box and keep it somewhere you won't be able to access. Lock it and lose the key if you have to.

You could also place these items at random places in your house but keeping them together in a box is more convenient. The letters to yourself should be kept separately.

So will you be creating your own time capsule? Tell me all about it here!
